VIDEO CONFERENCING AT ATHENA
The ATHENA excellence in cities education action zone makes extensive use of Video Conferencing to support teachers and children. The Zone is particularly interested in extending the creative uses of the technology for learning and to designing applications and opportunities that are new, innovative and ground breaking.
The Zone has been instrumental in creating activities for VC2W, Birmingham Local Education Authorities annual showcase for Video Conferencing, and has developed the Interactive Soap Opera "UNHOLY HIGH".
The Zone broadcasts exemplar Maths and Literacy lessons from the purpose-built ATHENA Learning Resources Centre and has established partnership links with educational institutions across Britain and in Chicago, Turkey, Europe and the Middle East.
Each of the zone schools has a Video Conference facility, providing a powerful environment in which to explore multiple applications of the technology from short burst interventions, to extended learning projects.
The Zone has produced a number of useful articles
relating to the use of Video Conferencing in schools. These can be accessed
through the links opposite.
